~ A Visit to Our Chicken Coop ~

I have enjoyed fresh eggs for many years. Being horrified by the cruel inhumane conditions chickens are exposed to in facilities; the second I had the opportunity to raise my own chickens, I ran with it! Caring for baby chicks and being able to walk into my coop every morning for fresh eggs is such a gift. There were a few things I had in mind while building a custom coop.

I wanted it to be well ventilated so the dust would not get overwhelming during cleaning. The coop sits 2' off of the ground and the bottom is lined with chicken wire.

We cut the front off of plastic dish pans and sat them in each nesting box for easy cleaning.

I wanted it to be open so my hens could come and go as they please. I love that they can free range during the day or lay in their nesting box peacefully and come in to roost at their own pace every afternoon. So we added a door only to be closed during bad weather.

A window was added to the front that can be closed in the winter for warmth and open for better ventilation in the summer.

Added a flower box for a cozy feel:)

A little bit of paint goes a long way!

Added red metal roofing to match our house. The fake flowers will be changed out of the flower box with each season.

                                                               The flock approves!!
